Francis McDonald (Mac) Oliver III

Francis McDonald (Mac) Oliver III passed away peacefully at home on February 6th after a short illness.

Born and raised in Savannah, GA, he was the son of the late Colonel Francis Oliver and Corinne Stevens Johnson.

After attending The University of Georgia where he was a member of the Kappa Alpha fraternity, Mac moved to Atlanta where he met his wife, Miriam. He was a successful salesman representing many different textile lines including Sunbrella, and he and Miriam had many hobbies including field trial spaniels, Paso Fino horses, and they also spent a great deal of time at their cabin at Lake Burton.

The couple moved back to Savannah in 2006 and settled at the Landings on Skidaway Island.

Mac remained active in his church, Messiah Lutheran on Skidaway Island, and was a member of the Society of Colonial Wars, the St. Andrews Society of Savannah, The Landings Club, and the Forest City Gun Club. He was also a member of the Sassy Seniors Club and was an honorary member of the Pearlette’s Croquet Club at The Landings.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Miriam Bishop Oliver, father Francis McDonald Oliver, Jr., mother Corinne Stevens Johnson, stepfather Victor L. Johnson, Jr., and brother Victor L. Johnson III.

Mac is survived by his brother Dana Stevens Oliver (Linda) of League City, TX, sister Anne Bone of Savannah, GA, and brother Steve Johnson (Kathy) of Atlanta, GA, and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 10th at 11am at Messiah Lutheran Church, 1 Westridge Rd. Skidaway Island, Georgia with a celebration of life immediately afterward at The Deer Creek Club, 25 Deer Creek Drive, Savannah, GA 31411.

Burial will be a private ceremony at Bonaventure Cemetery at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Messiah Lutheran Church or Hospice Savannah.
